Mugshot Monday - “Custom @bigboxcar Twitter Mug” by Mug Revolution with Snow Shoe Brew by Peace Coffee
This is a cool coffee mug made by Owen Dearing of Mug Revolution out of Bend, Oregon. He does all kinds of customized handmade coffee mugs. This one is the “Twitter Mug” that has your twitter name and a cool bird stamp on the handle where you place your thumb:

Holy! I didn’t know Twitter recently made embedding tweets on blogs posts SUPER EASY NOW! Very nice: play-this.org/2011/12/13/emb…

Very nice! Links are clickable and the author name is clickable. You can even follow the user from this embedded tweet. (Kinda overkill, but that’s okay.)
And it’s SUPER easy! See the text “Embed this Tweet” on the screenshot above? That’s from the pernalink for the tweet. Click on that link and you get the code.
I learned about it when I found this post — there are *much* clearer instructions on how to do this: “Embedding Tweets is Easier Than Ever With Latest Twitter Update”.
Note: The Tumblr Dashboard destroys the embedded tweet styles (of course), so you’ll need to view this post on my blog to see how it looks
I did a little experimenting and it looks like if you are embedding a @reply then the original tweet shows up above it. Brilliant.

While [Summify] is being closed down, it seems fairly obvious that Twitter bought the company to try to incorporate that kind of semantic filtering into its offerings — likely by beefing up its new “Discover” tab, which uses trending topics and other features to try and suggest interesting content to users. As it exists now, the Discover option isn’t very comprehensive or well-organized, and it makes sense for Twitter to try to do that better. One of the service’s challenges has always been to figure out how to keep new users engaged, since it isn’t clear to many what exactly Twitter is for.

Twitter acquisition confirms that curation is the future — Tech News and Analysis

This is good news — probably. I never use the new “Discover” tab on Twitter. And I’ve never used Summify, but was *just* checking it out last week because it was recommended by a Twitter service called formulists.com (which is shutting down, unfortunately). Their take on Summify was: “Summify creates a beautiful daily summary of the most relevant news from your social networks, and delivers it to you by email, web or mobile” Hmmm…

Heh. “One thing is not like the other…”

Well done Waldorf of NYC! That’s more than “listening” on twitter — that’s some serious twitter marketing CSI.

My friend Jeff twitter’d this last night. Whoa. It’s kind of a funny read actually: Search [“I just broke” lamp]

I got this page when I went to twitter.com today. I thought I had typo’d the url — you know, when you’re off by one letter and you go to some parked web site that “kinda” looks like the site you want, but it isn’t.
It’s the maroon-wine colored background. Very not twitter, I think.

Social media is fun.
Olivier Blanchard (@thebrandbuilder) gave a great talk this morning at General Mills for Mima on what exactly an Online Community Manager “is”. [I’ll link up to the video of the talk when it’s posted.] My tweet is actually his joke. Fun.

So. Yesterday, I sent my first TWEET to Twitter that was actually supposed to be a private TXT message to a person. What’s worse is it was a TXT reply to my wife.
Dodged a bullet right there. Whew.

Alas. Unfollowed.
That’s a pretty cool tweet by @bobeltomate actually — that he even thought to mention @iFollowEyes. Check the back-posts on the iFollowEyes project here.

#Winning on Twitter: How to Unfollow People so They Notice You

Okay, this post started off as a joke. I can’t recommend unfollowing people on Twitter so they notice you, but that seems to be what will happen. (UPDATE: I do give some solid advice at the end, tho. Read on…)

So I twittered I’d create this post — See the inspiration (read bottom to top):

That’s a screengrab from a conversation @justacoolcat and I had about a recent post by @chrisborgan, who had unfollowed 130,000+ people on twitter because he was getting over 200 Twitter SPAM Direct Messages a day.

I don’t know if Chris Borgan did the unfollowing for self promotion. And I should really read his BIO because I actually still have no idea who he is. Anyway, it’s an interesting phenomenon to me — this personal “connection” folks feel when they get followed or unfollowed.

Personally, I am not offended if I get unfollowed. And I don’t always follow back when someone follows me. And I don’t expect someone to follow me back if I follow them.

Instead, I’m MUCH more interested if people engage me on Twitter with @mention’s. And if someone I ask a question on twitter does not even answer? Well, that bums me out. I may not follow everyone, but I really try to always reply if someone reaches out to me.

So, to sum up on this ‘fake’ post: If you want people to notice you, don’t FOLLOW them or UNFOLLOW them. Instead, interact with people. They will notice.

Twitter’s new “Recent Images” feature is really nice. But none of the images are ones I created.
Not a one. And it’s all my fault.
I don’t use TwitPic, or YFrog, or Lockerz, or any other photo sharing service that integrates with Twitter. I use Tumblr to post my images. I gave up on Twitpic when one week it took forever to post and then would double (or quadruple) post the same image. I ditched TwitPic for Tumblr and never looked back.
I have my Tumblr rigged to send a tweet with a link to my posts — and photos are labeled as “Photo: …”.
But Twitter does not appear to acknowledge my Tumblr tweets as “Recent Images by @bigboxcar”. So instead, what you get is a really nice gallery of all the RETWEETS I twitter’d of other people’s cool photos.
And I like that, of course. It’s cool. But I don’t like that the page states that all those images are belong to ME. Because they don’t.
Unsure of what to do about this. I mean, those are NOT MY IMAGES. Or, no big deal? Thoughts?
