Reblog this post - ONLY once per blog! - and then you’re entered to win… a dozen donuts??Yes, once again fredflare.com is gonna overnight you a dozen donuts from my fave NYC spot The Doughnut Plant.
And, what the heck, I’m also gonna throw in a $50 gift certificate to fredflare.com
I’ll pick winner on 2/10. Good luck! xo, Keith
Hm. How does one capture 11,000+ reblogs to then pick a winner?! Impossible!! But … I hope I win!
Most Popular BIGBOXCAR Photo posts in 2011
I made this list using the best of tumblr tool. I had a few thoughts when I saw the results:
First: All of these “popular” photos are popular because someone with a lot of followers reblogged the photo post and then their followers did a lot of liking and reblogging. That has always been so fascinating to me about Tumblr — how the distribution of my content can reach so many second or third tier audiences.
Second: Why does Tumblr STILL not have analytics so we can see what people are doing with our posts? This best of tumblr tool was so refreshing to find. Tumblr has “temporarily” turned off reblog email notifications, so there is no way to track that now. Very frustrating.
Third: I can’t believe I took that pic of the Hennepin Avenue bridge sunrise. Lucky shot.
- bigboxcar: I'm wondering why I don't get notifications via email anymore when someone reblogs one of my posts?
- Tumblr Support: Hello Karl, We have disabled reblogs notifications temporarily as a spam protection measure. Sorry for the trouble
- bigboxcar: . . . . . . . . .........
Help me understand HOW I can communicate with Tumblr friends

Occasionally, I get a REPLY on one of my Tumblr posts. And then I want to reply back. I can not do this through Tumblr (right?), so I try to follow them on Twitter and hope they follow me back so I can send them a Direct Message.
That’s rediculous ridiculous.
I’ve tried using the ASK feature, but then sometimes the person PUBLISHES my question. That’s okay sometimes, but not okay other times.
Am I missing something? How can I communicate with Tumblr friends?
UPDATE: Here are some of the suggestions and some of my reactions:
- This irony of this post is maddening: People are making suggestions and I can’t reply to them publicly or privately! Blerg. (Yes, swirlspice, you got me!)
- (via Twitter) soupsoup suggests I try the Missing “e”, the unofficial browser extension for Tumblr. It allows you to reply to replies. I will try this. However, the extension is not endorsed by Tumblr, so I am concerned it may be rendered unusable in the future. But, I’ll install it and kick the tires.
- wearaboot and cutlerish say use the Tumblr ASK feature and make it clear I want the correspondence to be PRIVATE. I’ve tried that before, and my correspondence ends up getting published. Honestly, I don’t think it’s malicious. Instead, I think the recipient of my question wants to answer, but doesn’t know how! So they publish their answer so I can read it. Makes sense to me, but oy!
- erikostrom suggests using DISQUS comments. I like DISQUS, but it just feels so disconnected from Tumblr. Mostly because they don’t show up in the Tumblr Dashboard.
Any other suggestions?

Good post. Written by soupsoup.
Follow this Tumblr Now, and Thank Me Later
Very nice. Figuring it won’t look as cool in my Tumblr dashboard, tho. Good to know in advance.
Help! I’m giving a talk about TUMBLR to my coworkers at Ciceron today
Can you please reblog this post and add any sweet tumblrs you recommend to follow? Be sure to recommend YOUR tumblr, yo. This will help me explain how these reblogs of reblogs look, too. Thx!
Team Tumblr: We need an animated GIF of WCCO’s Jason DeRusha frolicking through the dandelions at the 0:54 mark in this video report he filed. [NOTE: You’ll need to fight thru a 15 sec AD first…]
Who is up for the task?
Magazine Editors Are 100% Sure Tumblrs Are Driving Subscriptions, But They Can't Prove It
Have any of you subscribed to a magazine because they have a Tumblr blog?
Hey Noah Davis at Business Insider, I’m a let you finish, but just FYI BlackBook has actually sold magazine subscriptions directly through Tumblr — once through Gilt, and more recently, via our own devices because why should we share our precious moneys. So I’d say we, at least, can actually kind of prove it? Also, far as I know, we’re the only one to actually sell an ad campaign via a Tumblr-based campaign a la Ann Taylor’s Art She Said? Plus our magazine Tumblr predates all the ones mentioned in your article, but that’s cool, I know Vogue needs some more attention and stuff.
The Cheat Sheet was sponsored by Ann Taylor at launch, and over the course of the campaign did some novel “in dashboard” advertising. Just saying.
Very very interesting. Especially the Cheat Sheet’s experimentation with “in-dashboard” advertising.
Hm. Seems like Tumblr NOTES are lying to me again. I see 4 notes, but I’m reading there are actually 6.
Ego stroke? Or bug?
MinnPost will be there! Maybe we can round out the Twin Cities media trifecta and get Utne to show up, too.
Minnesota Tumblr folks:
One week from today, March 3, PRI is hosting its first ever Tumblr meetup. We’re gathering downstairs from our offices at Pizza Luce downtown. They’ve got a pretty darn good happy hour ($3 taps, rails & house wine). So c’mon by!
I can’t make it, but you should! Love the flier, btw. Awesome.
‘Get your own blog’ is the new ‘get off my lawn.’

![Tumblr participates in the SOPA/PIPA protest by giving users the option to black out their personal Tumblr blogs. I did not participate [obviously] because I’m just small-fry potatoes, yo. Anyway, kudos to Tumblr for this effort.](http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ly019gjiXj1qzozgbo1_r1_500.png)
