That’s a pretty cool tweet by @bobeltomate actually — that he even thought to mention @iFollowEyes. Check the back-posts on the iFollowEyes project here.

Mugshot Monday - “Official @iFollowEyes” coffee mug w/ French Roast by Peace Coffee.

Little more than a year ago, I started a silly project of following profiles on Twitter that use an eyeball (or “Eyevatar”) for their avatar picture. The Twitter profile I set up to do this is called @iFollowEyes. I thought the “Now Following” grid would be kind of cool.

Turns out, it’s awesome! So, I made an @iFollowEyes coffee mug of the eyes on Zazzle. Here’s the full graphic which wraps around the whole mug:

The @iFollowEyes profile is now following more than 1000 eyeball avatars! I’m sure there are more, which I’ll continue to add, one eyeball at a time. If you see an eyevatar, just type up a tweet with their profile name and @iFollowEyes. Like this.

@iFollowEyes now following nearly 1,000 eyes on Twitter!
This started out one year ago as just a simple curious question: What would the Twitter “Following” grid look like if you only followed profiles with eyeball profile pictures?
One year latter and @iFollowEyes is following 962 eyes!
This was before Twitter Lists, so I had to create a new profile, @iFollowEyes. I then started following the eyeballs (or “Eyevatars”) when I happened to see them.
My friend Dave actually got me thinking about it when he started Twitter and loaded this photo as his profile:

Kinda creepy, huh? That’s actually his dog’s squeak toy. Turns out, a lot of other people had eyeballs for profile pictures, too.
After Twitter Lists launched, I found others who curated Twitter Eyeball profiles as well. I’ve followed the eyeball lists here when I see them.
Gotta admit, that grid of eyeball profile pictures turned out pretty nice. (Click on the image above for a bigger version.)

UPDATE: I Follow Eyes on Twitter
@iFollowEyes is now following 228 eyes.
I had not updated the grid of Eyevatars in a long time. But I’m now using Tweetie, so it’s become very easy to follow Twitter profiles with eyeball avatars when I stumble upon them. The list has grown a lot without realizing it. If you find a great Eyevatar, send a tweet with @iFollowEyes in it and I’ll take care of the rest!

UPDATE: I Follow Eyes on Twitter
@iFollowEyes is now following 93 eyes and I am using ‘Friend or Follow' to do the screen grab of all the avatars. Love the grid of eyes! Turned out better than I ever imagined. One thing I had not even thought of was seeing the timeline where all these eyes are twittering! I'll post a screengrab in the next update. It's a trip.

I Follow Eyes on Twitter
I noticed a lot of eyeball avatars on Twitter & wondered what they would look like in the “following” grid that appears on each Twitter profile page. So I created the profile @iFollowEyes and started following eyes! This screengrab is from the first round of follows.
