Trying “Allies Win The War In Europe” ale by 21st Amendment Brewery for the first time. This is really good! It’s kind of sweet and mellow, and then it’s really strong. I had no idea what this beer was made of (the can doesn’t say), so I checked the website:

ALLIES WIN THE WAR! is 21st Amendment Brewery’s first ever collaboration beer, a traditional English-style Strong ale aged on native California dates and dry hopped with all-Northwest aroma hops. Available now in limited edition four-pack cans and draft.

Huh. That explains the sweetness, I guess! Date-Beer. Cool. It’s 8.5% yo, so don’t take this beer tubing down the Apple River.
I bought this beer as a single at Zipps Liquor, but I think they have the 4pks, too.

Mugshot Monday - “Kramarczuk’s 2011 Kielbasa Festival” mug with Fat Tire Amber Ale by New Belgium Brewing
I love Kramarczuk’s Deli for lunch. And right now you can buy this awesome mug (er…stein?) for $5! And it totally comes filled with beer. I chose Fat Tire to compliment my Hungarian Sausage sandwich. No free refills, however.
I did not attend the 2011 Kielbasa Festival, but it sounds like it was a lot of fun, according to some of the fine workers I talked to at the deli. Look out for the 2012 event to happen in September.

Trying ‘Back in Black’ by 21st Amendment Brewery — it’s a Black IPA and it is very good. Kinda sharp with a side of hops and good flavor all around. You can’t see the artwork on the back of the can, but you should take a look because it’s really great. That is my refrigerator door in the background.
For another super good Black IPA, try New Glarus Black Top. Note: You’ll need to go to Wisconsin to get some.

Hm. Thinking I should get some Champale for New Year’s Eve! [found via.] What beer do you get to celebrate the new year?

Having a Flat Tire on the eve of Christmas eve.

[fyi, I typo’d the name of this beer when I posted this, as graciously pointed out by mr-pibb and elongrad97 in the notes. I corrected it, then changed it back! Because that’s too hilarious.]

I like this photo — it was posted by emergentpattern. My grandfather, Carl Leo Hoessel (who I was named after) worked for Miller in Milwaukee back in the day. Miller has had so many different logos/cans/beers — this photo of the ‘old-school’ can reminds me of when I was younger, when my Grandpa was alive. Growing up, I noticed over time that Grandpa didn’t drink beer a lot even though he worked at a brewery. My Grandma confirmed: “He only drinks a beer with a good ham sandwich.”
I actually found this pic when I read this post, where the photographer wondered why it was getting so many reblogs, noting “it’s mostly teenagers from California”. I thought I would explain my reason for reblogging it.
Damn I miss my Grandpa.

Common Roots beer selection this morning. I had coffee instead, but had to think twice. Wow.

Hmmmm…

This is the coolest 6-pack packaging I have ever seen. And I got the last one at Zipps on Saturday. This is ‘Bitter American Extra Pale Ale’ by 21st Amendment Brewery — I found out it’s a late winter seasonal brew, so when I say ‘last one’ that’s it until next year. Read my favorable review here.
