Mugshot Monday - “BIG LOVE” coffee mug with a Dirty Chai from Peace Coffee Shop and a Ricardo Levins Morales “Marriage Endangered!” print
Stopped at Peace Coffee Shop today because I needed caffeine and this “Big Love” coffee mug made me smile. The mug has nothing more on it but red hearts. “Dirty Chai in this Big Love Mug, please,” is how I ordered.
There’s new artwork on the walls now and this print by Ricardo Levins Morales caught my eye. Here’s the text:
Only love can threaten it! Only fear can save it!
Forget health care costs, childcare shortages, school cutbacks, pension robberies and eternal warfare! Gay and lesbian marriage could destroy yours!
Only demagogue politicians can explain how this makes sense…
Coming soon: Ban the burrito — a threat to the American meatloaf!
I don’t usually like using sarcasm and cynicism to make an important point because you run the risk of someone thinking you’re being freaking serious. But this print is well done.
Here in Minnesota, we get to vote on a bullshit amendment that limits the freedom to marry for committed same-sex couples. You should vote “No” on that, because not only are there more important things to be working on, and because it’s been made clear the amendment was just a “turnout opportunity for Republicans” — IT’S JUST FLAT OUT RIDICULOUS that a marriage should be defined by gender ratios. Marriage should be defined by the commitment two individuals have to one another. Done.
So, VOTE NO. And now I need to find out where I can buy my own ‘Big Love Mug’. Because it’s kind of awesome.
