A breakthrough year for MinnPost
This is such great news. Full disclaimer: MinnPost — a non-profit online news start-up — is where I work. LOADS of awesome planned for 2011. Caveat: We move as fast as our budget allows, of course. And our 2010 “surplus” is indeed modest. But it will allow us to move faster than last year. I can ‘feel’ that in the office already. And I’m excited about...

The real-life "Replacements"
I liked this run-down on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers leading up to the NFC title game against the Bears this weekend. Well put. I still don’t know who will win.

He grew up in Chico and spent two years at Butte JuCo.
Transferred to Cal where he made a name for himself before sliding down the draft scale, scooped up at No. 26 by the GBP.
Spent three years riding...

Words Have Consequences →
Short, good post on HuffPo. The last paragraph of the post is it:
That this is carried out, and often rewarded, in the name of the Constitution, democratic rights and liberties, and patriotism is a mockery of all this nation claims to believe and almost all of us continue to struggle to preserve. America is better than this.
It’s difficult for me to believe this is what American politics...

Listening Room →
minnpost:
Need a soundtrack for your Friday afternoon? This site looks like a promising project. Create a room, invite others to join and share music.
We may have started a room called “Dance Party.”
(via mthomps)
Wow, this is pretty cool! Check out Village Voice’s Listening Room (it’s called DAS WUZZUP) to see it in action. Nice concept.

Fraud alleged in original study linking childhood... →
Wow. Fraud. Good grief! I can remember trying to decide if we should get our 1st child vaccinated or not 7 yrs ago, based on reports linking the shots to autism. It totally stressed us out. Our doctor finally said, “Well, the reports are inconclusive right now. But I do know for a fact your child can die from polio.” We got the shots.

Good post. And the quote above is probably mostly true. Disappointed with the last 3-4 paragraphs of the article, but overall the author asks great questions.

How Did I Do: A Look Back at My Media Predictions...
mediation:
Oh that’s right, I made a bunch of way over-the-top predictions at the end of 2009 for the MN Media Market in 2010. They were pretty aggressive, and not much happened this year, so I’m guessing they were all wrong. Let’s check:
Prediction! MPR drops the Q from their NewsQ branding effort, goes back to being regular MPR News.
Well that one came true, but that was a gimme.
